Last week we had the Muppets but we’re taking a walk on the darkside with this one. Deadbolt calls itself “The Scariest Band in the World” and calls their style “voodoobilly”. It’s kind of a mesh of surf rock, rockabilly and psychobilly – all genres that I enjoy.
I put it out there with tongue in cheek, as it’s a song about going postal. That's not a term that the USPS is fond of, but it’s doubly appropriate today — the busiest mailing day of the year. You may have seen on your local news that the expected volume of mail today had mail carriers in many cities delivering packages on Sunday and they will be doing it again next Sunday, the Sunday before Christmas.
The holidays up the level of stress for a lot of us, especially those hard working folks at the post office. Keep in mind that less holiday sneer equals more holiday cheer as you stand in line at your local post office, today.
I heart the Muppets. This movie, “Letters to Santa: A Muppets Christmas”, came out a couple of years ago but well after we all became addicted to our tablets and smartphones.
Even in this digital age, it's interesting how many movies, TV shows and other pop culture references there are to snail mail. With good reason, too. Have you ever met someone who doesn't delight in getting a handwritten card, little package or other surprise in the mail? Makes one feel all warm and fuzzy inside, like a …wait for it … … … muppet!
Holy, chum! Nickelodeon and the U.S.P.S. team up to show kids the joys of snail (insert Gary's “meow” here) mail.
From December 5 to January 4, special SpongeBob SquarePants postage paid postcards will be available to kids for free. Yes, I said “postage paid” and they're free! They can be found at 25,000 post offices nationwide.
Adding to the fun, 30 mailboxes have been wrapped in a custom SpongeBob design and placed in cities, including Atlanta, GA;Boston, MA; Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Hollywood, FL; Kirkwood, MO; Los Angeles, CA; Miami, FL; New York, NY;Orlando, FL; Philadelphia, PA; and Washington, DC.
This campaign was put together by Nickelodeon's New Business Development Team. For more information and step by step guides for kids, parents and teachers, go to www.nick.com/usps
