  • Labor Day 2012 Mail Music Monday

Did you run away for the holiday weekend? Maybe sent a little love through postcards? Or maybe you picked up a couple for souvenirs? Here's a Mail Music tune to add to the soundtrack of your last day off. It's “Love Through Postcards'” by The Scene Aesthetic. No matter how you spent the three day weekend, we hope it was loads of fun and we'd love to hear about it.

First day of school? Mail Music Monday to start your day!

Here's one to put some pep in your prep! I chose “8am” by The Summer Obsession for several reasons. Of course, first and foremost is the mention of snail mail, always a prerequisite for a Mail Music Monday tune. The band originated in Florida and we are celebrating the near miss of Tropical Storm/Hurricane Isaac for most of that state. Also, summer is coming to an end and the kids need to be up early for school. I wonder how many asked their parents to “get me up early” as the song lyrics say? The beat is a pepper uppper to help with that. Of course, first and foremost is the mention of snail mail, always a prerequisite for a Mail Music Monday tune. Hope you enjoy and don't forget to send us suggestions for songs you think would make a great Mail Music Monday.

On what would have been his 65th birthday, my cousin Steve will be honored with a ceremony renaming the USPS Post Office at 67 Castle St, Geneva, New York as the “Corporal Steven Blaine Riccione Post Office.”

The ceremony begins at noon, EDT,  on September 8, followed by an open house reception at the Sons of Italy – Geneva Lodge 2397. This is a public event and the community is invited to celebrate and honor the memory and deeds of a young man who fought bravely for his country and his fellow soldiers.
