President Woodrow Wilson declared the first Armistice Day, November 11, 1919 to honor veterans of World War I. It was in June of 1954 that the name was changed to “Veterans Day” to honor American veterans of all wars.
For a while, Veterans Day was celebrated according to the The Uniform Holiday Bill (Public Law 90-363 (82 Stat. 250)). That proved to be confusing so, in 1978, in order to focus more on the sentiment of the day, Veterans Day was officially set to be observed on it's original November 11.
The song we chose today came to us from Robert Bell of AccuZIP. You can find him on Twitter @AccuGuy. We want to thank Robert for suggesting this song and we especially want to thank all of the veterans who have served our country so that we can live free and work hard.
